He knows with certainty now, for the first time, that he should have remained on board. As he plummets toward the dark sea below, he is seized by fear and regret. One evening, in an hour when the deck is deserted, he jumps overboard. He becomes terribly discouraged by his situation, and finally decides to throw himself into the sea and end it all. He also has no idea where the ship is headed or when he might next set foot on dry land. There are many crew members and fellow passengers, but the dreamer has no comrade or compatriot. >The dreamer finds himself on a large ship that is steaming and sailing through the waves at great speed. The specific part she's open to is the seventh night: Four of the ten dreams begin with the phrase "This is what I saw in my dream" (こんな夢を見た Konna yume o mita). >Sōseki writes of ten dreams set in various time periods, including his own time (the Meiji period) and as far back as the "age of the gods," and the Kamakura period. I don't know if anyone's pointed this out yet, but the book Cocona is reading in school is Natsume Souseki's "Ten Nights of Dreams". The brewing conflict between Mob & his brother, which would have seen Mob confronted by how he himself has been too self-absorbed to notice the upset & resentment he was causing someone he cared about would have been a fine way to go out. But that it needed saving from what felt like a different writer suddenly took over & shoved in an evil organisation of super powered espers for the sake of upping the ante in Act 3 is what knocked it from AOTY to pretty good for me. It's just that Mob Psycho itself was fun.I agree Reigan saves the show & it ends on a good note. It's like the rant from 'dat terrible Special Powers show, Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de, it sorta transcends the genre and stands on it's own for a single chunk of the show. From about a quarter of the way into Ep11 it got over all it's issues and ended really well. First 7-8 episodes were still great, at least.Īlso, I don't think any mangaka or anime director of a show about magic power battles is in a position to tell their audience to grow up.Le'sigh, I know we've got that meme that Lancehot just likes to be contrarian, but really? Mob Psycho 100 had, IMO, a bit of a weak start and some issues through it's run. I dunno if it's the original author or the animation studios doing the adaptation, but both Mob & OPM end up relying on the same things they seemed to be mocking/parodying/whatever at the start. I was almost thinking Mob Psycho 100 could be AOTY material, then the Generic Evil Esper Organisation showed up & suddenly all the tropes & cliches that were refreshingly absent showed up.
